The Origins, Figures of Speech, and Cultural Reflections of Chinese and Thai Blessings Ungwara Kunlawanvichit Chanyaporn Chawala Abstract Blessings show speaker’s care, resulting in listeners and speakers have good feelings towards each other. This article aims to study blessings in Chinese and Thai. It focuses on analyzing and comparing their origins, patterns, figures of speech, concepts, customs and cultures reflected in Chinese and Thai blessings. After collecting and analyzing the data, it is found that the forms of Chinese and Thai blessings are similar; they are in prose and poetry. Also, there are words showing occasions at the beginning and the end of a sentence. Besides, Chinese and Thai Blessing have their own unique characteristics. The rhetorical figure that is used reflects concepts and beliefs of the people. Thus, we can absorb semantic knowledge through the usage of all forms of language, and obtain social science knowledge through concepts, customs and cultures which reflected through the blessings.
